The global aim to reach net zero emissions is becoming increasingly widespread, China pays more attention on developing renewable power. Below graph displays the total installed renewable power generation capacity in China in 2020 and a forecast for 2025, 2035 and 2050. In 2050, the total renewable energy generation capacity installed in China was forecasted to amount to approximately 6,142 GW based on a below two-degree Celsius scenario.

While increasing energy generation from cleaner sources demands an increase in transmission and distribution networks. Wind farms often require significant real estate and are therefore built far from urban centers in remote areas where land is cheap and available, and so the ability to move the electricity generated to urban load centers through the electric grid is crucial. Any attempt to increase energy generation from cleaner sources needs to be accompanied by an increase in transmission and distribution networks. An inadequate transmission and distribution network leads to constant congestion and curtailment issues, which affect the economic viability of projects.

China's power transmission losses amount to around five percent of total production output. In 2021, around 5.26 percent of all power generated was lost owing to transmission and distribution resistance. This was the lowest figure in the period of consideration and follows years of network improvement.  So it is of importance that transmitting energy to the grid and the ability to dispatch that electricity to end consumers.

Therefore, it is the development trend of future transmission technology to improve the stability of transmission engineering and reduce the probability of failure. Due to a large geographical area and a large coverage area of the power grid, there are many power grids that operate in parallel with AC and DC. After years of operation, certain experience has been gained. With the construction of DC transmission projects in recent years, AC-DC parallel operation systems will inevitably face more complex problems. Improving the stability of the whole transmission system is an important issue in the development of transmission.
