Engineering of Power Electronics Dominated Power System
Frede Blaabjerg (S’86–M’88–SM’97–F’03) was with ABB-Scandia, Randers, Denmark, from 1987 to 1988. From 1988 to 1992, he got the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering at Aalborg University in 1995. He became an Assistant Professor in 1992, an Associate Professor in 1996, and a Full Professor of power electronics and drives in 1998 at AAU Energy. From 2017 he became a Villum Investigator. He is honoris causa at University Politehnica Timisoara (UPT), Romania in 2017 and Tallinn Technical University (TTU), Estonia in 2018 as well as honorary professor of University of Parma in 2025. His current research interests include power electronics and its applications such as in wind turbines, PV systems, reliability, Power-2-X, power quality and adjustable speed drives. He has published more than 800 journal papers in the fields of power electronics and its applications. He is the co-author of ten monographs and editor of twenty books in power electronics and its applications eg. the series (4 volumes) Control of Power Electronic Converters and Systems published by Academic Press/Elsevier. He
has received 49 IEEE Prize Paper Awards, the IEEE PELS Distinguished Service
Award in 2009, the EPE-PEMC Council Award in 2010, the IEEE William E. Newell
Power Electronics Award 2014, the Villum Kann Rasmussen Research Award 2014,
the Global Energy Prize in 2019 and the 2020 IEEE Edison Medal. He was the
Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS from 2006 to
2012. He has been Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Power Electronics
Society from 2005 to 2007 and for the IEEE Industry Applications Society from
2010 to 2011 as well as 2017 to 2018. In 2019-2020 he served as a President
of IEEE Power Electronics Society. He has been Vice-President of the Danish
Academy of Technical Sciences.

Current Interruption Technologies and Equipment
Professor Mingzhe Rong is a Distinguished Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University. He serves as the leader of the NSFC Innovative Research Group on Insulation and Discharge of Electric Power Equipment, Chief Scientist of the State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment, and Chief Technology Advisor of China Electrical Equipment Group. He is a Distinguished Professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. As the first contributor, he received one Second Prize of the National
Technological Invention Award and one Second Prize of the National Science
and Technology Progress Award; as the second contributor, he received two
additional Second Prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
He has also been honored with the National Award for Excellence in Innovation
and the National May Day Labor Medal.

Speech Title: Possible
Architectures of Future ACDC Electronic Power Systems
Dushan Boroyevich received his Dipl. Ing. degree from the University of Belgrade in 1976 and his M.S. degree from the University of Novi Sad in 1982, in what then used to be Yugoslavia. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1986 from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, USA. Between 1986 and 1990, he was an assistant professor and director of the Power and Industrial Electronics Research Program at the University of Novi Sad. He then joined the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech as associate professor, and later a co-founder of the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES). He retired from Virginia Tech in 2024 as University Distinguished Professor and as Associate Vice-President for Research and Innovation in Energy Systems. Dushan was a mentor for around 60 Ph.D. dissertations and 50 M.S. theses, with whom he co-authored over 900 publications. He continues to be active in consulting and promoting new electronic energy networks for energy transition. He was the president of IEEE Power Electronics Society for 2011-12. Dushan is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering and is a
recipient of 6 honorary professorships in China, as well as numerous other
awards, including the IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Technical
Field Award, the European Power Electronics Association Outstanding
Achievement Award, and Ph.D.H.C. from the University of West Bohemia,
Czechia. He is IEEE Life Fellow and Fellow of CSEE.

Current Limiting Technology, Equipment and Application for VSC-HVDC Systems
Bin Li is a Chair Professor at Tianjin University. His research interests lie in the protection and control of novel power systems, as well as advanced DC transmission and distribution technologies. He has led seven NSFC-funded projects, including the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars and Key Projects. He has published 207 papers as the first or corresponding author and has authored four academic monographs. He holds 73 Chinese invention patents and four U.S. patents. He is a Fellow of
both the IEEE and the IET. His honors include the Second Prize of the State Technological
Invention Award of China, as the project leader, he has also received two
Special Prizes and three First Prizes at the provincial and ministerial
levels.

Speech Title: Novel UHVDC
Transmission Technology Supporting the Outward Delivery of New Energy
Prof. Zhanqing Yu received a Ph.D. from Tsinghua University in 2008. Currently, he is a Professor of Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University. His research interests include advanced power transmission technology, power semiconductor devices and key equipment for DC Grids electromagnetic transient and its protection, and high electric field sensing. He was awarded the Excellent Young Scholars of NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China) in 2019, and appointed as a Changjiang Distinguished Professor by the Ministry of Education in 2025. His research project “Large Capacity DC Breaking Technology” won 2021 E&T Future power and energy Innovation Award. He has won 1 second prize of the National Technology Invention Award, and 1second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. He has published more than 200 papers, obtained more than 120 patents, and taken part in 10 items of technology standards.

Abhay Kumar (Jain) is IEEE Fellow, and
Senior Principal Project Lead Engineer at HVDC Hitachi Energy in Ludvika,
Sweden. He studied Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT), Roorkee in India and started his professional career in
1982 and has been with Hitachi Energy (including previously with ABB) since
1995; overall working in HVDC field over 40 years. Recently he has been
playing a key role in executing several 800 kV UHVDC Projects and
Saudi-Egypt. He has been active in several IEEE, IEC and CIGRE working groups
and is regular member for CIGRE SC B4 representing Sweden. He is recipient
IEEE PES Uno Lamm HVDC Award (2019), IEC 1906 Award (2020) and CIGRE Honorary
Member Award (2022). He is already Fellow of Institute of Engineers (India)
since 2020.

Mr. LIU Bo, Professorate Senior Engineer, Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chairman of Shandong Taikai High Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd., Deputy Director of the Special Committee for New Power Equipment and Engineering Applications of the National Energy Internet Industry and Technology Innovation Alliance, Member of the Electric Power Live Working Technology Committee under the China Electrotechnical Society, Vice Chair of Taishan Intelligent Manufacturing Industry Alliance, and Key Cutting-Edge Technology Talent of Shandong Province's Key Industrial Chains. Speech Title: Next-Generation HVDC
Converter Technology based on IGCTs
Longlong Chen, Ph.D., is a Professorate Senior Engineer specializing in HVDC transmission technologies. His research focuses on converter valves, DC circuit breakers, and control and protection systems. He has contributed to the development and engineering application of ±800 kV UHVDC converter valves, 200 kV and 500 kV hybrid HVDC circuit breakers, and ultra-fast transmission line protection devices. He has participated in three National Key R&D Program of China projects and more than 30 projects funded by the State Grid Corporation of China. Dr. Chen has received multiple provincial and national science and technology awards, holds 32 authorized patents, has published seven SCI/EI-indexed papers as first author, co-authored two technical monographs, and serves as a reviewer for several leading EI-indexed journals.
